Separating or divorcing can be heartbreaking and stressful. It’s important to be able to grieve the relationship and to also keep your focus on moving forward. Often with separations and divorce, forgiveness is an important component. Now, before you reject that suggestion, let me be clear. To forgive is not to condone. Forgiving is a way of freeing you from being in the control of another. With separation or divorce, it’s common to have feelings of failure, of “I’m not lovable,” or “No one will want me.” Or, “I may only be wanted for my financial assets.” And of course, there’s the belief, “I can’t possibly ever date again.” All of these erroneous beliefs can be overwritten, so that you can move forward in your life with confidence and with a sense of adventure. Will there still be grief? Yes, and you can accept the process, and you will have more strength to move through and beyond it. You can be focused on and excited about your future.
